CuC 2.0
Coming to America !!
So, we were invited to participated in this mega cool art festival CANDEM NIGHT GARDENS -- a community driven initiative by the city of Candem, Pensylvania -- with our beloved CuC. Since the one we had in Barcelona was kind of dirty and old, we decided with my CuC partner, Guillermo Laborde, to build a new one during the Christmas season, when I was visiting Barcelona, and send it to America!
Guillermo Laborde (my partner for this project) had thought of a new material for the structure, and it was a great time to try it. Instead of INOX we used these plastic rods, which turn out great but less rigid.
This festival was just so beautiful. So many people participating doing all kinds of things to enliven and enrich a community who was hit pretty hard by poverty. It was beautiful to see so much passion, pride and enthusiasm to try to plant loving seeds for this community in Candem.
We were hired by Wild Dogs International – special thanks to Ken Farmer – among other artists, to populate the City Hall Square with our interactive pieces. I am really sorry to have forgotten the name of the light artist who dressed up our installation with the coolest animated abstract colorful patterns. It is a long time idea we always had for the CuC, but in 2003 we only managed to project some static cartoons made by Barbara Partegas, THIS on the other hand really went beyond our WILDEST dreams 😊
I hope I can find his name and put it here…
Then, since we had a CuC now in New York, the Bronx Museum invited us (I had interviewed its director Sergio Bessa) for a family day party in August in a park as well. Unfortunately, it was the hottest week-end of the year and they had to move the party inside. Still children had a good time.
And I am adding here as well the building of the it and the logistics. Always grateful to Pete Vogl and his van… And his jokes 😊
